Year 3

The third year of my course was based in industry, and I was working as a software developer based in Birmingham for M-Stack Ltd, which is a subsidiary company of Research In Motion. M-Stack is the main UK development centre for the 3G protocol stack software used in the leading edge BlackBerry devices.

My internship lasted for a year, and started in June 2009. As part of the 3G protocol stack development team, the internship provided me with an opportunity to help develop the next generation BlackBerry device firmware. I have been involved in the full software development lifecycle and have been designing, implementing and testing my code. I have been working on leading edge wireless technologies UMTS, HSDPA & HSUPA. The areas Within UMTS I was primarily involved in where MAC/MAC-e, RLC Protocol Development.

Whilst at M-Stack, I was using tools and skills such as IBM's Telelogic SDL suite, Synergy for version control. Perl and C.
